Everything you need to know to start a preschool from home!
You see, back in 2009, we had just had our third baby and I really needed to start generating an income since the economy was making it hard for my husband to support us with his sales job.
BUT...I did NOT want to put my 3 precious kids in daycare. Besides, with 3 kids I would have likely been just working to pay for their care!
I had been a scientist and a public school teacher before having our first daughter. But it was super important to both of us to keep our young children at home so we could raise them, so those jobs weren't going to work for me anymore.
I had also done a bit of real estate, virtual bookkeeping, e-commerce, etc...but all of these opportunities didn't give me the time I wanted with my children or the financial freedom I was looking for.
So...I had to come up with another way to make a real income while still having time to enjoy my own children.
I knew I definitely did not want to run a daycare and have kids at my house every day from early in the morning until dinner. I wanted to have time to enjoy my own kids, too.
So, I began to do a TON of research to find another option...
That was when i decided to look into opening up my own preschool!
(*Please note, this is NOT The Same As THE LONG HOURS REQUIRED WHEN Running A Daycare)
I mean, my oldest child was already in a preschool by this time...and while her preschool was ok, I kept thinking of ways that it could be even better.
I knew I LOVED kids! AND I already was a credentialed teacher (by the way, you DEFINITELY do not have to be credentialed to run a home based preschool - especially with my help).
So, I decided to go for it. Honestly, I felt like there was one of those "quiet voices" nudging me to give it a try.
At the time, it was a leap of faith. And I won't lie - since I wanted to create my own curriculum that was the best of everything out there, I didn't sleep much for a couple years. (Not to mention I had littles at home, too. Who really sleeps a ton with 3 young children anyway, right?!)
I definitely poured my heart and soul into my "preschool business baby." Now, I've been doing it for well over 10 years. I've definitely learned what works...and what doesn't!
That's why I want to share everything I have learned with you.
With my help, you can skip to the good part. And hopefully get a lot more sleep - ha!!
I'm SUPER excited to share the 6 simple steps you need to follow to open your own preschool!

now, you may be thinking...this all sounds pretty good, but won't it be hard to have kids at my house all the time???
Good news!
You will be opening a PRESCHOOL and NOT a daycare.
Yes, home daycares are a great service...but they require a LOT of hours. And an INCREDIBLE amount of patience (if you do this, you are a super hero in my mind).
For preschool, I recommend beginning with 2 and 3 day classes at only 2-3 hours each. This is a great set up for the kids and families, and for you! Plus, the youngest kids will be at least 2 years old.
By keeping it down to limited days and hours, kids (and teachers) won't get burned out and you can keep the costs reasonable for families.
Plus, this allows you to make a substantial income while keeping your services affordable.
Of course, you can offer the option of more days, or longer days...but you can still keep it to school hours and calendar days. This means you can have the same schedule as your children once they are school age.
Families like to have the same holidays amongst kids, and this will make it easier to find quality assistant teachers too.
After all, you need to take care of yourself, so you can be an AMAZING, HAPPY teacher!

Now, you might be wondering...how do I find clients who want to come to my school?
Unfortunately, just because you build it, doesn't mean they will necessarily come.
To begin with, I highly recommend making a website. Nowadays, most people don't really believe a business is "real" without a website. Plus, it's a great way to share all the details with prospective families. (I recommend Weebly if you want to make your own.)
Next, start telling everyone you know! By sharing with local friends and family, they can help tell people, too. Share by mouth and on social media.
Do you belong to online parenting groups? If not, be sure to go on Facebook and join. When people ask about preschools, you can let them know about yours.
Make flyers and post them in places where families with young kids will likely visit. Bulletin boards, parks, libraries, etc are all great places to start.
I will share some specifics and many other great ways to get clients during my FREE online training - so be sure you check your email for the invitation!

By opening up your own preschool, you can have the best of BOTH worlds. And don't worry, it is absolutely NOT the same as running a daycare. This is a job you can easily do part time or full time - you get to pick your days & hours!
