First day...what to do?

At first, it may feel overwhelming to prepare young kids for kindergarten success...try your best not to stress!
Young children do not need to have a ton of organized activities :)

I am going to do my best to share fun ideas and learning ideas for you on these pages in the days ahead.

My main goal ALWAYS is to keep learning and developing FUN!

Below you will see a little overview of what we do each day, and then at the bottom, there will be links to detailed plans and activities for each day.  Feel free to pick and choose from what you want!

Kids learn best by moving and doing and music - you will notice I don't teach with worksheets (except for a small handwriting activity) as I know that is not how children really learn.

If weather permits, please try to get your child outside for some fresh air every day.  It will make everything else go much smoother - trust me!

Learning Activities​


Below is a quick overview of our general academic learning practices:
HANDWRITING

Each day, we do a quick handwriting activity.  Our kids getting ready for kindergarten are currently working on word families and number review.

Younger kiddos are reviewing tracing letters and numbers.

Plus, we always practice name writing!
​Young ones should trace, older ones can try on their own :)

Math Activities
Each day we play a little game to learn a different math concept.
In March, we have been working with simple graphing.

Spanish
We learn preschool Spanish throughout the year.  In March, we are learning body parts to sing "Head, Shoulders, Knees, & Toes" in Spanish.

Numbers
Throughout the year, we learn and practice numbers with songs and games.  Since it is the end of the year, we play various games with 1-30 and sing our 1-30 song most days.
​​Sight Words
As we prepare kids for kindergarten, we are working on sight words.  You can just write the words on a paper, then make it fun to read with your child and have your child fill in the blanks.

Word Families
In other kindergarten preparations, the kids are learning to string letters together to sound out words.  Write the letters on paper squares, put them together to sound out each word.

Review letter names/sounds
We are still reviewing letters so no one forgets them and the younger ones can still work on learning them!

SCIENCE, art, or game



Each day, we will do a fun hands on science activity, creative art, kindergarten prep art (often including scissor cutting or other fine motor activity), or a game to help us review math or letters.​

Our days always include a story, finger plays, and some music and movement or yoga.
Feel free to use our suggestions, or supplement with some of your own!

​The idea is that children should always be moving as much as possible :)
