giraffes, kangaroos, bunnies, & sensory bottles
today's activity idea
Make Your Own Sensory Bottles
These are amazing for relaxing times at home, or when kids are stuck inside. Fun for everyone!
All you need is an empty container with a lid that closes well and a few other easy to find supplies! Some of the best containers are Voss or CORE type water bottles, other large and sturdy other water bottles, or even nice empty spice containers, peanut butter containers, etc. I highly recommend plastic for everyone's sanity and you DEFINITELY want one with a nice smooth bottom.
Be sure to clean the bottle well if it is a recycled bottle. You can use Goo Gone if there was a label that won't come all the way off.
Liquid Ideas
Clear Water
Colored Water
Mineral Oil
Baby Oil
Cooking Oil
*Using oil helps objects move a bit slower around the bottle for a cool effect. To color the oil, please use an oil dye or otherwise it won't work.
Shampoo or Soap
Glycerin
Corn Syrup
Dry Ingredients
Have FUN trying out different things! The choices are endless...but here are a few ideas:
Magnets
Glitter
Stuffing Beads
Confetti
Tiny Toys (animals, cars, etc)
Sequins
Buttons
Marbles
**Be SURE to GLUE the top on when you are done for extra security!

An easy, fun one you can make quickly is just using cooking oil and water. Add color to the water to make it colorful!
Have fun trying different combinations :)

See Our Current Daily Songs Here:
Spanish: We are reviewing our "Head, Shoulders, Knees, & Toes" song
Numbers: 1-30 number game with spring shapes
(cut out fun shapes or go to the Dollar Store and write numbers on them, have your child put them in order, fill in the missing spots, etc)
Sight words "There are ____." and numbers one, two, three, four, five
You can just write the words on a paper, then have your child think of ways to end the sentence and "read" it to you.
Today's word family:
"ug": bug, jug, rug, mug, hug
At home, you can easily write the letters on paper squares (feel free to use your child's favorite color!), put them together to sound out each word. If you want to make them more sturdy, use card stock or laminate them (clear packing tape can work like laminating in a pinch).
Word Matching Practice:
Today we will be practicing matching words that begin with "a" and "b" to the right letter, and matching the word with the picture. At home, you can make your own or purchase the Sunshine Learn to Read Program to get a complete set already made to download. It's fun to play matching games to practice beginning reading!
Review letter names/sounds
(We do this every day with a different twist in class so the kids don't forget them!)

SCIENCE Activity
Today is all about more animals! Giraffes, Kangaroos, & Bunnies
It's no secret that kids like animals. Today we are having fun learning about giraffes, kangaroos, and bunnies (since it is almost Easter time). It's great if you have any toy animals you can use! If not, don't worry, some great pictures will work, too. You can print them off the internet onto card stock or laminate them to make them more sturdy.
If you don't have a printer, you can even draw them, too :) For an added art activity, make some out of play dough or clay as well.

Next, We Learn About the Tallest Animals: Giraffes!
Our Final Animal For Today Is: Kangaroos!

Here are some animal toy supplies if you want to make it extra fun:
story, finger play, music & movement
STORY: "Giraffes Can't Dance"
Music: "Silly Dance Contest" by Jim Gill
This is one of our most favorite music and movement songs. Have fun, get your wiggles out, and be silly!
Finger Play: "Here is a Bunny"
Nursery Rhyme: Little Bo Peep
The MOST important part of teaching preschoolers is...
KEEP IT FUN!
Be sure to try to get your kids outside each day as much as possible, too!
Stomp in some puddles.
Find some worms.
Watch the clouds.
Go for a walk.
Look for animals.
Search for acorns, leaves, & pinecones.
FRESH AIR AND SUNSHINE ARE GOOD FOR THE SOUL!
And movement helps children develop and grow.
xoxo, Jennifer
