TODAY WE MAKE giraffe FINGER PUPPETS!
today's activity idea
MAKE BEAD BRACELETS
Beading is a great activity for little fingers! It helps develop fine motor skills and encourages the pincher grasp to make handwriting easier.
You can make them on anything you wish...but I highly recommend using pipe cleaners if you can. This is the easiest method for most little ones. However, string works, too.
Materials
Beads (I recommend pony beads for younger ones, but any beads work depending on the child's fine motor skills)
Pipe cleaners or string (Here again, pipe cleaners are the easiest for little ones, but string is fine if they are ready)
You can order beads, etc, online or check out your local craft store - and sometimes even the Dollar Store.
There are soooo many different types of beads - have fun!

An easy, fun one you can make quickly is just using cooking oil and water. Add color to the water to make it colorful!
Have fun trying different combinations :)
Learning Activities
HANDWRITING
We have the children practice name writing each day. Young ones should trace, older ones can try on their own when they are ready :)

Math Concept - Time: Learning to tell time on the hour
Today we learn how to match the time on the hour for a clock.
Spanish: We are reviewing our "Head, Shoulders, Knees, & Toes" song
Numbers: 1-30 number game with spring shapes
(cut out fun shapes or go to the Dollar Store and write numbers on them, have your child put them in order, fill in the missing spots, etc)
Sight words "I see ____." and numbers six, seven, eight, nine, ten
You can just write the words on a paper, then have your child think of ways to end the sentence and "read" it to you.
Today's word family:
"ot": lot, cot, pot, dot, hot
At home, you can easily write the letters on paper squares (feel free to use your child's favorite color!), put them together to sound out each word. If you want to make them more sturdy, use card stock or laminate them (clear packing tape can work like laminating in a pinch).
Word Matching Practice:
Today we will be practicing matching words that begin with "c" and "d" to the right letter, and matching the word with the picture. At home, you can make your own or purchase the Sunshine Learn to Read Program to get a complete set already made to download. It's fun to play matching games to practice beginning reading!
Review letter names/sounds
(We do this every day with a different twist in class so the kids don't forget them!)

Giraffe Finger Puppets
See below to learn how to make Giraffe Finger Puppets
Materials:
Cardstock paper
Yellow paper
White paper
Brown paint (preferred) or brown marker
Googly eyes (optional)
Glue
Circle paper puncher for finger holes (optional)
If your child is capable, have him/her help cut out some of the parts! For younger ones, you can cut them out and the child can put it all together. We always get a few "Picasso" style ones - they are often the cutest!
Here is a template to use if you like:
Now you can have a giraffe finger puppet play!
Here are some supply resources, too:
story, finger play, music & movement
STORY: "Put Me in the Zoo"
Music: "Let's Go to the Zoo" by Super Simple Songs
This is one of our most favorite music and movement songs. Have fun, get your wiggles out, and be silly!
Finger Play: "Here is a Bunny"
Nursery Rhyme: Little Bo Peep
The MOST important part of teaching preschoolers is...
KEEP IT FUN!
Be sure to try to get your kids outside each day as much as possible, too!
Stomp in some puddles.
Find some worms.
Watch the clouds.
Go for a walk.
Look for animals.
Search for acorns, leaves, & pinecones.
FRESH AIR AND SUNSHINE ARE GOOD FOR THE SOUL!
And movement helps children develop and grow.
xoxo, Jennifer
